Technical translation and typesetting
The client...
The client designs, manufactures and installs electronic systems for the OEM and fleet operators of speciality vehicles. Their unique products are used for power distribution, charging, switching, and controlling electrical power in a wide variety of vehicles including bus, truck, emergency service, marine and leisure vehicles.
The brief...
To translate highly technical product guides into seven languages, including Arabic and Russian and typeset the files to produce print ready brochures for the client to distribute in country
The solution...
Our leading translators in-country where contacted to work on the project. 7 translators and proofreaders where set up to start work on the project, each with relevant experience in technical translation, for example a back ground in electrical engineering or manual production. The translators worked together with the proofreaders to ensure the content was accurately translated to reflect the original brochures. Using language experts was also useful in picking up a few little mistakes that had been overlooked in the English – an easy mistake to make when you have been looking at something for a long period of time!
The translated copy was then passed to language specific DTP experts who were able to fit and format the text into the original source files ready for producing the print ready PDFs. In the case of the Arabic the layout was carefully adapted to account for the right to left direction of the script. The Russian characters were also carefully formatted and we ensured that the client was able to view non Latin characters.
The results...
Seven carefully translated technical specifications, perfectly formatted into their original design layouts and adapted according to language specific requirements. The client was very happy with the result and we are looking forward to working with them on their next project.
